Trends often get a bad name for offering a generic solution to everyday problems. But I’ve sometimes found them to be great sounding boards while thinking of style. Combine it with one’s instinctive personal sense of style, and you have a great styling tool at your disposal. This post is about one such trend, something that’s soon becoming a must-have, the ‘Off-the-shoulder’ (OTS) top. It’s summer time, go off the charts with an off-the-shoulder.
My favorite part about an OTS is the grace it lends to skin show. I mean, I love my short dresses and low necks but I can sometimes be a bit of a subtlety nerd when it comes to clothing. An OTS offers the best of both worlds when I am in one of those moods.
We all have our days where one is conscious and imperfect with the fit on our arms and legs, but shoulders? Cant really go wrong with flaunting them, can we?
I’m wearing an olive OTS top from Nordstorm here with a pair of embroidered shorts from Loft (both by the way from some great Memorial Day deals…links below). The top has two of my favorite things going for it, it’s a crop top that’s off-the-shoulder. Call it a ‘crop and bare’ if you will – too bad the fashion world has no copyrights :D. I can go on with the adjectives on this top: feminine, edgy, romantic, relaxed; but the thing that wins my heart with this is how easy it is to style it with other summer trends (Skirts, denim, heels….).
The embroidered shorts have a certain “easterness” about it that I can’t quite put a finger on, but gives the Indian girl in me a jump of joy when I put them on.
I’ve also accessorized the look with a few trinkets from Forever 21 and Daisyshoppe. The necklace here is a go-to piece for me which combined well with a lot of outfits. I like the antique look of the gold here (instead of anything shiny bright). The rings from Forever 21 complete the look.
MORE OTSness: I picked up these a while ago, and they’ve stayed on as a trusted OTS in My Closet, a mustard dress from Forever 21. I love how the dress adds color, yet the rustic finish on the fabric and the lace details give it a refined look. The details on the lace bordering the shoulder just makes this a very complete piece.
Thanks for reading, hope everybody had a great memorial day weekend and everybody finds this post in their best spirits. Do check out the links below and please leave your comments.
