Designing this blog has not just been about the clothes. I’ve also had to think about the representation of every visual space on it and how the pixels are utilized. I’m sure other bloggers can relate to obsessing over minute details of whether ‘x’ looks better center aligned or right aligned…haha! On one such mind trip, I was looking for a center motif for my ‘My Closet’ tab and was fixated on the idea of a skirt twirling to capture the joy a new fabric represents. Right from the good old skirts of my high school uniforms, the twirl has always put a smile on my face, so I went out looking for something that would help me capture it in all its glory. None of the usual suspects helped, but a few clicks later, I stumbled upon this website that had this cool name and cooler designs: SheInside (a.k.a. SheIn) – http://www.shein.com/
At first glance, I really couldn’t believe the products on the website nor their prices. They looked too good to be true. As we all do, I put my research glasses on and began looking deeper. I came across a few mixed reviews [like every other thing on the internet]. So I decided to take the plunge, experience and review for myself.
So far, its been a pleasant surprise. I ordered twice from their website. First up, the online buying experience. I liked how SheInside had all their clothing categorizes sub-categorized into even more specific labels. I have often browsed through websites looking at clothes that just don’t meet what I’m looking for. The sub-categories here help a lot, yes I’m talking about you, ‘boho dresses‘. The prices, yes, this will catch your eye. Especially when you top them with various discounts on some already extremely reasonable prices.
I settled in on this black skirt that I had my mind set on and a few safe tops. My only complaint was that for the black skirt, they do not have a picture of a model wearing to visualize it. But most of the other products do come with the standard model pictures.
I used the free standard shipping on any minimum order. Orders of $99 and more have free express shipping. The clothes got to me in around 1-1.5 weeks, which is relatively fast for an international shipment.
It was time to proof the pudding. The black skirt I ordered was one size due to its elastic waist, and it fit me like a glove. I was a little worried how a one-size was going to work, but no complaints there. The material was good, felt and looked polished, well made and the color was exactly as what it looked like on the website. I love the ruffles on the bottom of the skirt. The skirt can be dressed up or down based on what you use as a top. And yes, needless to say it fit my requirements for the center motif to the T. I’m twirling happy as you can see :). I paired it with a crop top and decided to go dressy. I love crop tops (hell I even wrote a piece on it: Link) and paired it with red stilettos from Sole Society.
I also got another skirt, a short blue one this time. Again a smooth shipping process, and a great fit. I wore it recently to a Greek festival in downtown San Diego (no, I hadn’t planned to have the colors of the Greek flag on…LOL) and I felt pretty good in the fabric. Will have more on this on a later post.
I haven’t had to return anything as yet, so I’m unaware if that has any bubbles associated with it. But looking at their customer service interface, I’d doubt there would be any troubles there.
